DATA PROTECTION & ACCESS TO HEALTH RECORDS 

We fully abide by the rules laid down in these acts and only those persons who have right to see your records will be able to see them.

This practice adheres to all standards of confidentiality. All health professionals, administrative and ancillary staff- including receptionists, secretaries, practice manager, cleaners and maintenance staff who are bound by contracts of employment to maintain confidentiality. They must not reveal, to anybody outside the practice, personal information they learn in the course of their work, or due to their presence in the surgery, without the patientís consent. Nor will they discuss with colleagues any aspect of a patientís attendance at the surgery in a way that might allow identification of the patient unless to do so is necessary for the patientís care.

Who has access to patient information

We respect your right to privacy and keep all your health information confidential and secure. It is important that the NHS keeps accurate and up-to-date records about your health and treatment so that those treating you can provide the best possible care. We have a fully computerised medical record system which means information about your healthcare is held on a secure server. You have the right to know what information we hold about you. Please ask the receptionist if you wish to see or obtain a copy of your record. If you are referred to a hospital specialist you are also welcome to request a copy of the referral letter.

Online access to your medical records.

You can also now view a summary of your medical records using our clinical provider's website. You will need to register for this in person at the surgery with proof of ID, preferably a photo ID eg Passport / Driving license etc.
